Bevin Mirielle. The Warmest Colour, 2016. White chalk pastel, black paper; 18 x 24 in.

The woman within the drawing  exudes femininity, as if she has just awoken from the solitude of her restful slumber; she must now take on the harsh reality of just being woken up. After having watched the French film Blue is the Warmest Colour, the drawing was created as  a tribute to actress Adele Exarchopoulos and her natural beauty. From photo reference, white chalk pastel is used to first lay out the lightest values and areas are erased to further define and draw out the much darker values.
